about

This is our one song where it is legitimately told in a storytelling style. Our protagonist is so obsessed with this person that he is literally breaking into their home. It’s not malicious or anything he is just legitimately mentally in a terrible place. The chorus moves to happier sounding music while ironically, our hero realizes the girl has never really been happy and he’s looked past that because he himself was so happy. “Even the sun” has a double meaning, referencing both the physical sun and Christ. We thought the Christian symbolism went well with the “messiah tangible” line as well as the fact that Christ would probably look down on this dude after all this.

At the time of writing I never actually had been to Vermont, but now that we’ve literally played the song there it’s just kind of funny. I don’t really know why I decided to make fun of New Jersey? I heard like, Saves the Day do it in a song and like, it fit, so I just kind of did?

Anyway, enjoy!

lyrics

Verse 1:
I’m sick and tired of, being bored, existing, and home
We haven’t spoken since you stopped answering your phone
I’m trying hard to believe the excuses
But they’re like me, just so pathetic and useless

Pre-Chorus:
I dug a tunnel, underneath the ground, leading up into your house
And when you’re not home, I come through, I take off my shoes
Oh the days we took off, everything
Turn on the stereo, the band I showed you
Rummage the trash for our old photos, too

Chorus:
You look so sad in every one
Wish I could have seen past my smile I’m
Standing there with my messiah tangible
And you’re just standing next to you know
Even the sun is probably looking down on me
I didn’t mean to scar you
Didn’t mean to make you drive home, all the way in the, dark alone

No !

Verse 2:
If only you wouldn’t lock the door, it would make things so much easier
I’d break off the locks, put them where I keep my heart, underneath your floorboards
You got a twin sister I can talk to? A couple cigars? It’s been a while since I took a long drive in my car
I’ve never been to Vermont, who wants to smell like New Jersey?
